Two top current priorities for California school boards and school districts are:
- Implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
- Meeting the requirements of the state's new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) legislation and creation of a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
Both of these priority areas call for a strong school library program, and advocacy for such programs must occur at the local level, since each district is now controlling how education funding is allocated. It is crucial that we all advocate for library staff and library resources in our own schools and districts. CSLA has assembled a "toolkit" of materials to help you better understand both CCSS and LCFF and to assist you with your local advocacy efforts.
