San Francisco Friends School is an independent K-8 coed school in the heart of the Mission district in San Francisco. Although the school is just 13 years old, and has only been in its current building for eight years, the program is rooted in the 300 year old tradition of Quaker education. The library program and collection grew steadily over the first years of the school, with a major transition last year. The library expanded to a second level in the building and opened a Middle School Learning Commons, to serve the school’s 5th-8th grade students, faculty, and parents in new and exciting ways. In just its second year of this new setup, the staff and school are discovering the advantages and challenges of a Learning Commons, and are happy to share both with any CSLA visitors in February. The SF Friends School is located in the old Levi Strauss factory.
Sanchez Elementary School is a bilingual (English/Spanish) school of about 270 students, PreK-5. It is located in the heart of San Francisco, between the Castro and Mission neighborhoods and is open three days per week. The school library was remodeled three years ago with a grant from Target. Rachel Cloues, The Sanchez Teacher Librarian, will speak about the remodel experience.
Rachel taught 4th grade and elementary science for 10 years in Oregon and San Francisco. This is her fifth year as a Teacher Librarian in the San Francisco Unified School District.
1802 Hays Street, The Presidio
San Francisco, California 94129
